What Is Long-staple Cotton
Long-staple cotton is also called sea island cotton. Because of its good quality and soft and long fiber, it is praised as “the best in cotton” by people. Basic Characteristics of Long-staple Cotton
Long-staple cotton has a long growth period and needs a lot of heat. Under the same heat condition, the growth period of long-staple cotton is 10-15 days longer than that of ordinary upland cotton.
Long-staple cotton has good quality and soft and long fiber. The fiber is generally 33~39mm. The longest fiber can be up to 64mm. The fineness is 7000~8500m/g. The width is 15~16um. The strength is higher, which is 4~5gf/piece. The elongation at break is 33~40km. It has more twists, as 80~120 pieces/cm.
Long-staple cotton has better fineness and strength than ordinary cotton, which makes it much softer.

Egyptian Long-staple Cotton
Egyptian long-staple cotton is famous in the world, which is called “Platinum”. The length of fiber can be more than 35mm. The cross section of the fibers is nearly circular. It has strong diffusing ability. Fabric of Egyptian long-staple cotton can be well mercerized and well dyed. For its inner quality is the best, it is the most expensive in the world.
Xinjiang Long-staple Cotton
Xinjiang long-staple cotton has excellent quality. Its fiber is soft and long. It has white luster and good elasticity. The fineness of Xinjiang long-staple cotton is 1000m/g more than ordinary long-staple cotton. Xinjiang long-staple cotton can be used to make high-grade large tyre fabric, anti-chemical and anti-atomic radiation cloth and other textiles as well as various kinds of cone of thread, Sewing thread, embroidery thread and knitting thread, etc.
