Static Electricity in Fabric

Static electricity is a physical phenomenon. Synthetic fiber is a high molecular polymer. There are fewer polar groups on most of the fiber macromolecular chains. It has poor moisture absorption, higher specific resistance and poor electrical conductivity. Therefore, in the weaving process, due to the friction between the fibers and the fibers and the guide wire parts, the generated much electrostatic charge is losing and accumulating at the same time. When the accumulating speed is greater than the losing speed, a strong static electric field will be generated. Under the action of electric field force, the motion law of fiber in the processing process is interfered and the electrostatic effect is produced. When the electrostatic effect is severe, the fibers will repel each other due to the same charge. When the fiber bunching becomes poor, it will cause single fiber breakage resulting in broken ends of yarns. That will not only affect the product quality, but will also decrease the weaving efficiency.

Synthetic fiber

In order to solve the problem of static electricity in the weaving process, there are some solutions as following:

  1. Improve the electrical conductivity of synthetic fiber itself.
  2. Increase the hydrophilicity of fiber surface to strengthen the conductivity of electric charge on the fiber surface.
  3. Use corona discharge to make ion neutralization.
  4. Use anti-static finishing agent.
  5. Install air conditioner in the production workshop to control air temperature and humidity or install air humidifying apparatus, which can properly increase the humidity of weaving process to decrease the influence of static electricity.
