Six Commonly Used Enzymes in Dyeing and Printing Industry

Cellulase

Cellulase (β-1, 4-glucan-4-glucan hydrolase) is a general term for a group of enzymes that degrade cellulose to produce glucose. It is not a monomer enzyme. It is a kind of complex enzyme that is mainly composed of β-glucanase, β-glucanase and β-glucosidasechromatic aberration, as well as highly active xylanase. It is a multi-component enzyme system that plays synergistic effect. It acts on cellulose and products derived from cellulose.

Pectinase

Pectinase is also a kind of complex enzyme, which is a general term for a variety of enzymes that decompose pectin. Pectinase mainly consists of pectate lyase, pectinesterase, polygalacturonase and pectate lyase. At present, pectinase is mainly applied in pretreatment process for cotton and flax. It can be complex with other enzymes to be used as scouring enzyme.

Lipase

Lipase can hydrolyze fat into glycerol and fatty acids. Fatty acids can further oxidize to form sugars. In textile industry, lipase is mainly applied for degreasing and improving the properties of textile raw materials. Lipase is mainly applied in wool fiber to remove some grease in wool, which can make the wool fiber have physical and chemical changes, so as to improve the quality of wool.

On the other hand, protease can also be applied in anti-shrinking finishing for wool fabrics.

Textile dyeing and printing

Catalase

Catalase is the enzyme that catalyzes hydrogen peroxide decomposing into oxygen and water, which exists in the peroxides of cells. In dyeing and printing industry, catalase is known as deoxyenzyme.

Amylase

Amylase is a general term for enzymes that hydrolyze starch and glycogen. Amylase is used to catalyze and hydrolyze the starch and sizing agent on the fabric. Because of the high-efficiency and specificity of amylase, the desizing rate of amylase is high and the desizing speed is quick. There is very little pollution. The treated fabric is softer than that is treated by acid or alkali. Also amylase will not damage fiber.

Amylase is known as desizing agent in printing and dyeing industry. According to different temperature, amylase can be divided into room-temperature desizing enzyme, mesothermal desizing enzyme, high-temperature desizing enzyme and eurythermal desizing enzyme, etc.

Laccase/ Glucose Oxidase

Laccase is a kind of oxidation-reduction enzyme. The genetically modified aspergillus niger laccase can be used in the warn-look finishing process for jeans wear to achieve thick hand feeling, smooth surface, bright and elegant color.

Glucose oxidase can be used in bleaching process for fabrics. It is very effective for the production of hydrogen peroxide. It is no need to add hydrogen peroxide stabilizer during processing. The treated fabric has soft and plump handle.
