New Type Natural Plant Fibers

1.Bast fiber
In the stems of some dicotyledons, such as mulberry, paper mulberry and pteroceltis tatarinowii, etc., bast fibers are developed, which can be used as raw materials of specialty papers. In the stalks of ramie, hemp, flax, jute and China-hemp, etc., there are also especially developed bast fiber bundles, which are usually separated from the main stem by retting method or stripped manually or mechanically. Most bast fibers have strong strength. They are widely applied in manufacturing ropes, twine, packaging materials, industrial heavy cloth and textile products, etc.

2.Wood fiber
Wood fiber is in the trees, as pine, fir, poplar and willow. The pulp made from wood is an important raw material for the production of regenerated cellulose fibers.

3.Leaf fiber and stem fiber
Leaf fibers are mainly found in the leaf veins of monocotyledons, which is called hard fibers, such as sisal. Leaf fiber has great strength and strong corrosion resistance. It is mainly applied in make ship rope, mine rope, canvas, conveyor belt, protective net as well as weave sacks and carpets, etc.
Stem fiber are called soft fibers, such as wheat straw, reed, Chinese alpine rush and wula sedge, etc. After simple physical and chemical treatment, stem fibers can be used as weaving materials to weave straw sandals, paillasse, matting and baskets, etc. Also stem fibers can be used to make regenerated cellulose fibers and raw materials for paper.

4.Radicular fiber
There are few fibers in the root of plants. But some radicular fibers in plant can be also used, such as iris ensata thunb. Iris ensata thunb has thick and short rootstock and long and hard fibril. Except for medicinal use, it can be used to make brush.

5.Pericarp fiber
The peels of some plants contain rich fibers, such as coconut. Coconut fiber has high strength, but poor softness. It is mainly applied in making geotextiles and home textiles.  For example, it can be woven into a net for sand prevention and slope protection. And it can be bonded with latex and other adhesives to make thin pads, sofa cushions, sports mats and car mats, etc.

6.Seed fiber
Cotton, kapok and catkins, etc. are all seed fibers. Cotton is an important raw material for textiles for civil use. Kapok and catkins are mainly used as fillers.
