Characteristics of Modal
1.Modal has high strength and uniform fiber. Its wet strength is about 50% of dry strength, which is better than viscose fiber. Modal has good spinning property and weaving capability. Modal has higher wet modulus. The shrinkage rate of Modal yarns is only 1%. But the boiling water shrinkage rate of viscose fiber is as high as 6.5%.
2.Because of the high strength, Modal is suitable for produce superfine fiber and it can also be spun on ring spinner and rotor spinning machine to obtain yarns with almost no defects. These yarns can be used to weave light and thin fabrics and heavy fabrics both. The light and thin fabrics have good strength, appearance, handle, drapability and processability. And the heavy fabric is heavy but not bloated.
3.Modal spinning can achieve even yarn levelness. It can also be blended with other fibers by different rate, as wool, cotton, flax, silk and polyester, etc. to gain high-quality yarns. Modal can be dyed by traditional dyes, as direct dyes, reactive dyes, vat dyes, sulfur dyes and azo dyes. With same dye uptake, Modal fabrics have better luster, which is bright and brilliant. Blended fabrics by Modal and cotton can be mercerized. And the dyeing is even and color shade is durable.
4.Modal fabric has silk-like luster and it is elegant and beautiful, which greatly improves the grade of clothing. Modal has good hand feeling and drapability. Also it has ultra soft handle, which feels like the skin.
Properties of Modal
1.The fineness of Modal is 1dtex while the fineness of cotton is 1.5’2.5tex and silk is 1.3dtex. Modal is soft, smooth and shiny. Modal fabric has super smooth hand feeling and bright and shiny surface. It has better drapability than cotton, polyester and viscose fiber. It has the silk-like luster and hand feeling, which is a kind of natural mercerized fabric.
2.Modal has the strength and resilience as synthetic fibers. Its dry strength is 35.6cm and wet strength is 25.6cm, which are higher than that of cotton and polyester/cotton. The moisture absorption of Modal is 50% higher than that of cotton. So that Modal fabric can keep dry and breathable, which is the ideal fabric for close-fitting and health-caring clothing. It is beneficial to the body’s physiological circulation and health.
3.Comparing with cotton, Modal has good shape and dimensional stability, which imparts Modal fabrics natural anti-creasing performance and non-iron performance.
