The Difference between Polyester and Nylon
Polyester has good air permeability and moisture wicking performance. Also it has strong acid and alkali stability and anti-ultraviolet property.
Nylon has strong strength, high abrasive resistance, high chemical resistance, good deformation resistance and good ageing resistance. But it is stiff.
How to Distinguish Polyester and Nylon in Daily Life?
Performance of polyester: Polyester has high strength. For its moisture absorption is low, its wet strength is basically the same as its dry strength. The impact strength of polyester is 4 times higher than that of nylon and 20 times higher than that of viscose fiber. Polyester has good elasticity, which is close to wool. Its light resistance is only second to that of acrylic fiber. It is resistant to bleaching agents, oxidants, hydrocarbons, ketones, petroleum products and inorganic acids. But its dyeing performance is poor.
Polyester fabric is poor in moisture absorption. It is muggy for wearing. And it is easy to have static electricity and dust, which affects its appearance and comfort. But it is very easy to dry after being washed without decreasing wet strength or deformation. It has good washable performance. Polyester fabric is resistant to various kinds of chemicals. Acid and alkali have little damage to it. Polyester fabric has good anti-creasing property and shape retention. So it is suitable for making coat.
Performance of Nylon: Nylon has strong strength and abrasive resistance, which are the top among all fibers. So it has excellent durability. But it has poor air permeability and it is easy to produce static electricity.
The moisture absorption of nylon is good among synthetic fibers. So clothing made of nylon is more comfortable to wear than polyester. Nylon has good anti-moth and anti-corrosion performance. But its heat and light resistance is not good enough, so the ironing temperature should be lower than 140℃. Nylon is suitable for making mountaineering clothing and winter clothing, etc.
