Rayon
Viscose fiber is commonly known as Rayon. Rayon has good dyeability, high brightness and color fastness and comfortable wearability. It is weak alkali resistant. Its moisture absorption is close to that of cotton. But it is not acid resistant. Its rebound resilience and fatigue durability are poor and its wet mechanical strength is low. It can be spun pure and blended with chemical fiber, as polyester, etc. both.
Cotton
1.Cotton has good moisture absorption performance. Generally cotton can absorb moisture from air, which can keep moisture content 8~10%. So when human body skin contact cotton, people feel soft and comfortable. If the humidity of cotton increases, and the surrounding temperature is higher, all the water of the cotton will evaporate, which keeps the cotton in balance and makes people feel comfortable also.
2.Cotton fabric has good heat resistance. Under 110℃, only the moisture in fabric will evaporate, but cotton fiber will not be damaged. So using and washing cotton fiber under room temperature will not affect the fabric. The heat resistance of cotton also improve the durability and washable properties of cotton fabric.
3.Cotton fiber has strong resistance to alkali.
4.Cotton is natural fiber. Its main component is natural elements and few waxy substances and nitrogenous substances and pectin substances. After testing and practice, cotton contacting skin directly has no irritation or side effects. Long-term use of cotton is beneficial to human health.
Methods to Distinguish Rayon and Cotton
Rayon looks like cotton very much. The distinguishing method is as following:
1.Rayon cloth has flat surface, extremely few yarn defects and no impurities. It is fine, clean and smooth. But on the surface of cotton cloth, there can be seen cottonseed hull and impurities, etc. Its surface perfection is worse than Rayon.
2.Yarns of Rayon cloth is even, which is better than that of cotton cloth.
3.Rayon cloth, whether thick or thin fabric, has soft handle. While cotton cloth is stiff and rough.
4.The luster and color of Rayon cloth both are good. Comparing with cotton cloth, Rayon cloth is more bright-colored and beautiful.
5.Creaseability: Rayon cloth creases easily. And it is not easy to recover in time. Cotton cloth is more slightly wrinkled than Rayon cloth.
6.Drapability of Rayon cloth is better than that of cotton cloth.
7.The strength of Rayon cloth is lower than that of cotton cloth. Especially under humid environment, Rayon has poor fastness. Rayon yarn breaks easily. Therefore, Rayon is mostly thicker, not light and thin as cotton and flax.
