What Is Hemp Fiber?

1. Hemp fiber is the softest and finest one among all fibrilia. Its fineness is only one third of that of ramie, which is close to that of cotton. The hemp fiber top is obtuse, which is not so keen-edged as ramie or flax. Thus hemp fabric is very soft and comfortable without itchy handle.

 2. The lathy chamber at the center of the hemp fiber and longitudinal direction of the fiber surface is surrounded by many cracks and small holes, which form the excellent capillary effect. Thus, hemp fiber has good moisture wicking performance. Compared with cotton fabric, the human body feels about 5℃ colder when wearing hemp clothing.

3. The cross-section of hemp fiber is more complex than that of ramie, flax, cotton and wool, which is Irregular triangular, hexagonal and oblate, etc. The middle cavity and shape are various. And its molecular structure is polygonal, relatively loose, and has helical patterns. Therefore, hemp fiber has a good dispersing effect on sound waves and light waves. It can be resistant to strong ultraviolet radiation without special finishing. According to test, common hemp fiber can resist more than 95% of ultraviolet rays without special finishing.

 4. Hemp fiber is a poor conductor and can prevent the accumulation of static electricity. Its resistance to electrical breakdown is about 30% to 90% higher than that of cotton fiber. It is a good insulating material. For hemp fiber has very good moisture absorption, when exposing to air, hemp fiber products generally contain about 12% water, but its handle is not wet. Therefore, hemp fiber can easily avoid static electricity accumulation and friction causing discharge and pilling.

 5. Hemp fiber has high heat resistance. It will not change color at 370℃

 6. Hemp fiber is anti-mold and antibacterial. And hemp isn’t used any chemical pesticides or insecticides. Hemp fiber is standard green product.

With the maturation of spinning technology and the improvement of fabric performance, the application of hemp fiber is expanded from traditional coarse cloth and ropes to multiple fields such as clothing, home textiles and industrial fabrics, etc. For clothing, in addition to underwear, T-shirt and shirt, hemp fiber can be also used to make high-end garment, sportswear and outdoor clothes, etc.
