What Are the Differences in the Raw Material Sources of Artificial Fibers and Synthetic Fibers?

The raw material of artificial fiber is natural cellulose or protein, which is obtained through chemical processing and remolding of natural polymer compounds. The raw material of synthetic fiber is polymer compounds industrially synthesized, such as in petrochemicals. It is made entirely through chemical synthesis, which has no direct raw material connection with natural substances.

Artificial Fiber

Viscose fiber is made from natural cellulose such as wood and cotton linters. Lyocell and Modal is made from wood pulp. Cupro fiber is made from cellulose in cotton linters or wood pulp. And some regenerated protein fiber is made from natural protein, such as soy protein and milk protein, etc.

Synthetic Fiber

The raw material of polyester fiber is petrochemical product, such as terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol, etc. The raw material of nylon is chemical raw material, such as caprolactam, adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine, etc. The raw material of spandex is polyurethane compound. And the raw material of acrylic fiber is petrochemical monomer, such as acrylonitrile.
