Voile is also called organdy. It is a thin and semi-transparent plain weave woven fabric. Many people would mistake it for polyester fabric. But in fact, traditional voiles are mostly made of natural fibers, as cotton and silk, which has soft handle and excellent breathability. It is a good choice for summer clothes. And with the development of textile technology, synthetic fibers, such as polyester and viscose fiber, are also applied in making voile, which are durable, anti-wrinkling and cost-effective and can also imitate the appearance and handle of natural fibers. Therefore, not all voiles are made of polyester fibers.
Voile fabric is delicate, and proper cleaning is the key to extending its service life. When cleaning, hand washing is preferred. It is suggested to wish it with cold water and neutral detergent at room temperature. Acidic, alkaline or chlorine-containing bleaching agent should be avoided to prevent damage to the fibers. After washed, it can be air dried in a cool and well-ventilated place, avoiding direct sunlight, so as to prevent the fabric from yellowing or becoming brittle. In terms of storing, because voile is thin and light, easy to wrinkle and be snagged, it needs to be stored separately.
For it is light, flexible, breathable and comfortable, voile is widely applied in summer dress, scarves and curtains, etc.
